Right at this moment I’m flying from Chicago to Los Angeles. So, I decided that since I’m trapped 30,000ft in the air for the next 4 hours, it just might be a good time to write another blog. And a lot of great things have happened here in C-Town in the last 2 months. First and foremost, The Cavs became the world champions of the world after coming back from a 3-1 deficit and winning the championship…and it’s the first time that a team ever accomplished that in the Finals. Thank you LeBron and the rest of the Cavs for finally ending all of our years of misery without any of our pro teams winning championship…I can’t wait to watch them defend the title! 1.3 million people showed up downtown for the parade and it was truly a lovefest!!
Right after that the Tribe won 14 games in a row, took over first place in the American League Central and now it’s almost the middle of August and the Tribe is still in first place and doesn’t plan on surrendering it…GO TRIBE!!
Then came the Republican Convention and the city of Cleveland, along with our wonderful police force showed the world what I’ve known for years, that my hometown has the classiest people and is the best city in the world!! Oh yeah, and it’s also the Rock-n-Roll Capital of the world.
On July 31st Billy Sullivan, Don Krueger Bill March Cy Sulak & myself were the host band for After The Gig’s 10th Anniversary Farewell Jam. Ten years ago, Ann Thompson believed the local musicians were not being supported properly, so she put her money and her time into creating a website “AfterTheGig” where everyone could go to check where all the bands, duo’s, singles, etc. were performing any day of the week. It was truly an ambitious undertaking and for the past ten years we always had a place to go to find out what was happening around town. Sadly, she will be closing the at the end of the year. So Ann threw one last party so we (both musicians & friends) could get together one last time and thank Ann in the only way we knew how…with music. Thank you Ann!!!
Our travel was minimal in July but now that August has begun, we’re back to our non-stop touring ways. Last week we were in Reno, NV to perform at Hot August Nights and before our show, Gerry Beckley from America stopped backstage to say hello. They were performing the following night. I sure wish I would’ve stayed another night so I could’ve seen their show…oh well, next time.
On a sad note, last month Cleveland lost another treasure…John Awarski. John was one of the finest men I ever knew in the music business. He always put other people first, NEVER had a personal agenda and he truly loved the artists he helped and the music that they made. He was a dear friend and I will miss him…RIP!!
